Following the sudden disappearance of the former President of Haiti, René Préval l Former President of the Dominican Republic Leonel Fernández, in a letter addressed to Idalbert Pierre Jean the Ambassador of Haiti in Santo Domingo, expresses his sincere condolences to the man who, over the years, has become a true friend of him.
“His Excellency the Ambassador,
Allow me to express, through you, our sincere condolences to the Haitian government and people following the death of our dear friend René Préval, President of Haiti, a peaceful and very affable man with whom I have arrived. Cultivate a personal friendship.
The death of Préval is a great loss not only for Haiti but for the entire political community in the region, because it was a man who made important contributions to the development and strengthening of democracy and who cultivated a Cordial relations with neighboring countries.
By destiny, on two different occasions and decades, Préval and myself, we agreed as leaders of our respective nations, a time when there was a bond of friendship and harmony as Had not been known before in the history of relations between the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Haiti.
For these reasons, we would like to transmit to the Haitian government, the relatives of the former President, his collaborators and the Haitian people in general our sincere condolences to this irreparable loss.
We cherish the deepest desire that the valuable legacy left by this leading political leader inspires Haitians to continue to work enthusiastically for the benefit of democracy, institutional strengthening and social justice.
